Happy New Year? How Success Works In Our Brain

The reason I say Happy New Year with a question mark is because, as I write this, it is New Years Day!

Many people start over with a resolution on Jan 1st, for some reason we have it in our heads that this is a reset date.

I also do a restart on Oct 24th every year! Why? The 23rd is my birthday, so the 24th is truly my new year! I am currently in my 60th New Year and making sure I get the most of everyday, in every way!

Let me tell you a secret to success: ANY DAY  and EVERYDAY IS A RESET DATE.

If you're willing to restart every and any day until you're on the right path, you will succeed.

You will get tired of false starts, and you will start seeing days go by where you succeed and that feels good! More info below on success!

Whether it's January 1 or any day of the year.... if you're restarting: I wish you a Happy New Year!

XO, Marcy

Why Success Feels Good!

The feeling of success is often associated with positive emotions and a sense of accomplishment for several reasons:

  • Achievement: When you succeed at something, it means you have achieved a goal or overcome a challenge. This sense of achievement can boost your self-esteem and self-worth, leading to positive emotions.

  • Validation: Success often serves as validation of your efforts and abilities. It confirms that your hard work, skills, and dedication have paid off, which can be immensely gratifying.

  • Dopamine Release: The brain's reward system plays a significant role in the positive feelings associated with success. When you accomplish something, your brain releases dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward. This release of dopamine can create a sense of euphoria and satisfaction.

  • Sense of Progress: Success can provide a tangible sense of progress in your life. It signifies personal growth and improvement, which are fundamental human needs.

  • Motivation: Success can serve as a powerful motivator. When you experience the positive feelings associated with success, it can inspire you to set and pursue new goals, leading to further accomplishments.

  • Social Recognition: Success is often recognized and celebrated by others, leading to social validation and support. This recognition from peers and society can enhance the positive feelings associated with success.

  • Reduced Stress: Achieving success can reduce stress and anxiety related to the pursuit of a goal or overcoming a challenge. It can provide a sense of relief and relaxation.

  • Sense of Control: Success can make you feel more in control of your life and circumstances, which can contribute to a sense of well-being.

  • Fulfillment of Desires: Success often involves obtaining something you desire, whether it's a material possession, a personal milestone, or a fulfilling experience. This fulfillment of desires can lead to happiness and satisfaction.

  • Evolutionary Perspective: From an evolutionary standpoint, the feeling of success may be linked to survival and reproduction. Achieving goals and overcoming challenges may have provided an advantage in terms of resources and status within a community.

Ultimately, the positive feelings associated with success are multifaceted and complex, involving a combination of psychological, physiological, and social factors. Success is a fundamental human drive, and the positive emotions it generates can be a powerful force for personal growth and well-being.
